Summer Seaside

Summer Seaside

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I squint at memories
 burning rays of summer’s sun
reflecting off sand and water
the beach too hot for a barefoot run
Now our days have shortened
tea candles flicker and sway
shivering feebly at unwelcome drafts
no longer a seaside on a summer day
The same wind once welcomed
is now considered a wintry foe
shoulders ache as grasses bend
when easterly winds begin to blow
Closing my eyes I hear playful gulls
and yesterday’s holiday voices
I admire bleached bones of trees
tossed ashore when a storm rejoices
And so I realize the seasons
all must have their turn to play
for they’ve each painted a portion
of a seaside on a summer’s day
This lovely beach was such a treat to visit last summer.
It is not open to the public;
however, a friend, who has permission to visit it,
invited me along.
What bliss to take pictures
 with someone else who also enjoys photography!
I hope you felt the summer breeze
as you visited along with me.
  1. so sorry I’ve not been well enough to swallow and wallow in your journaling of emphatic wonders~ these are beautiful ! Doesn’t everything seem to sink into a quiet whiteness? xo your faithful friend ~Debbie
    1. Yes, it does seem that “a quiet whiteness” wins out in the end…until the return of the King when bones will be resurrected incorruptible. Thank you, Debbie, for your always passionate and deep words.xo
  2. Reminds me to enjoy the present and not judge, which we often do especially in life and about the seasons. A very contemplative poem.
  3. How lovely that you were able to visit a beach not open the public … by taking these wonderful photos you are sharing another little piece of heaven on earth which we would have not been able to see … thank you Wendy xxx
  4. Very good post and photos, Wendy. I loved what you said about all the seasons painting the landscape and you are so right! I’m also envious because I haven’t been able to make it to the beach yet this year and now time is running out. Thanks for sharing your time there with me. Blessings, Natalie
I enjoy a word in season, so I'd love it if you added an apple to the bowl.
