I Want to Be Like You

I Want to Be Like You

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I grow up
I want to be like you
hugging my wife
and helping her
in the kitchen
when she’s blue
Joking after dinner
with my daughter
or son
and going to work
even when it hurts
and is no longer fun
I want to be like you
when my son
needs a good
wrestling match
and get down on the floor
or when my daughter
is battling peer pressure
so I say
a prayer for her
before she goes
out the door
You remind me
of Someone
that cares about his
daughters and sons
Did you
by any chance
tell Him
that you want to be
like Him
once?
Some pictures beg to be a poem.  I thought this one did…
I was trying to get a closeup of the shells and also caught my husband and one of our sons in the photo!  Sometimes the accidental shots have the most to say…
    1. Thank you for saying this. I wrote this thinking of what my husband does, and it was emotional for me too… My children always thank me after every meal because they’ve heard their dad do this. They do what we do more than what we tell them to do…
    1. Thank you, Kelsi! I am so blessed when I see good moments happening between family members. It also blesses me when I see them patch things up with an apology and forgiveness after a not so good moment! 😉 Gotta love grace…
  1. This is so lovely, Wendy. As you know, I often ponder the special relationship between grandparents and dads and sons. Thank you for visiting my blogs and leaving your lovely comments to encourage me!
  2. I am misty-eyed. Praise our Father in heaven for being perfect, and for giving love, prayerfulness, compassion, and wisdom into the hearts of many humble, earthly fathers. Thank you for reminding me that my own husband is this kind of father, and that our children do adore and respect him. The whole poem touched my heart, but one line that especially tugged was the one about going to work even when it’s hard and not fun. Our kids are too young to understand all that V. has endured to get to this point in his career, and to be honest, it is a daily matter of prayer for him to know his joy comes from God alone, not the circumstances he is in.
    May God richly bless your marriage and family, that you each will spur each other on and pray for one another.
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, my friend!
    1. Thank you, Alison! Your children are so blessed to have loving and praying parents. I think children thrive in a home where there is a strong bond between mom & dad. Your very evident respect for your husband is a good part of the reason that your children adore him. Keep up the good work! By the way – your comment made my eyes misty! 😉
  3. What a beautiful poem, Wendy, that just sprung out of that precious photo. Unintentional? I think not! haha! I think God had this in mind all along! Thank you for your faithfulness to listen, write and click! God bless you!
      1. I did:) But my peacock Jock died, which made me feel really low. He could have been bitten by a snake or eaten something poisonous!Then the very next morning a 2 metre snake was in the Lamas shed!
        *Ack* My son killed it. I was so stressed it would bite him in the process!
        It’s snake season In Australia. I worry one of my grandchildren will be bitten whilst playing outside. Still, it’s the country and we just have to be aware of our surroundings.*hugs Wendy* xxx
        1. I am so sorry to hear about your peacock! They are such a beautiful bird. It is so unsettling when something so innocent gets harmed. I hope that the other snakes get wind of what your son did to the snake intruder and stay away!
