Winter Haiku
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Snowflake flowers bloom
on wisteria tendrils -
blue blooms later.
Diamonds grow on vines
only in the winter time -
love lasts forever.
Pretty snow pretzels
freshly made in winter storm-
enjoy while they last.

I really enjoyed taking snow pictures during our December snowfalls. It’s fun dreaming up haiku for each. Once I see a picture, I like, the imagination wheels start turning and don’t stop until I’ve arrived somewhere new.

Running and walking and coffee get my imagination going, and I always have much to write about whenever I hear songs of praise, read God’s Word, or just be with my children and family! Lots of things, then!
I love the snow pictures. The crystalline details, the blankets of white, the crisp coldness. Maybe I should post my recent blue sky/green palm tree picture with its own haiku…your poetry and photography are very inspirational to me! Have a lovely weekend! We are still enjoying pseudo-summer down here. Tennis and playground this morning, and I just got up from a family nap–rare and wonderful!

Caddo, my heart goes into my throat when I see something I want to photograph. Then I get all clumsy and have to try several times before I get one that’s not blurry!! You’re a friend after my own heart.

The wheels of my imagination …they run all the time. When I was in middle school at the Teen Arts Festival Day…I had a table. I sat with a pen and paper. I said give me a subject I’ll write you a poem. That was in the late 1960′s. I enjoy many styles and forms. I have a page on my site that explains ‘lunes’ An American style haiku form that you might also enjoy. You might also like the Elfje.

Beautiful pictures and words. I really love snow and ice. We don’t get much here but snow is forecast for Monday, so I might have some new inspiration for my winter haiku. It has been grey for too long. I think my imagination is stimulated most strongly and most often by nature in all its forms; by the tiny details at my feet and the vastness of the sky.

Wild wind and blizzard-like conditions created a hazardously plugged road. I got so stuck yesterday on the way to work it took 2 neighbours (who were very gracious!) and the better part of an hour to shovel me out…the very reason why we prairie folk need to keep emergency equipment with us in our vehicles!
It has been far worse south of us – lots more snow and much more hazardous driving conditions – but this winter has been a far more difficult one to deal with than the past few, that’s for sure!
